Damage to our communities
- Most products created, especially those targeted toward people of color, are not made in our best interest. They are marketed toward helping us however instead, they put us at risk for reproductive harm, increase our likelihood of cancer, damage our curls, ruin our melanin production, and much more.
- The damage is due to the quality of products made for our people consider what is cheaper vs what we need; they are also created by people who do not look like us nor care for us. They take advantage of most people not having access to information/products showing otherwise.
- At Afrodite, our products are created for us, by us. As a black woman, I consider what our bodies need, what care items would benefit us most, and connect with other people of other cultures to learn the same for their communities.
Returning to Our Roots
- Around the world, regardless of what region you're from, when you trace all of our roots you will find that in all of our remedies for care, wellness, and beauty, were only materials given to us by the Earth.
- These remedies for wellness and beauty not only worked, they created space for us to connect with the world around us, foster gratitude, instill resourcefulness, and forced us to be intentional with what went into & onto our temples.
- In today's society, especially places like the U.S, have been functioning off profit and strayed us from community and our roots. The U.S and other governments have created systems that convince us that it is impossible to choose a holistic route whether it be deeming it ineffective or less efficient. They spread propaganda that holistic approaches no longer work so they can put more money into their pockets via the healthcare system after the effect of their products begin to show or our continuous loyalty to their products after our minds/bodies become addicted.
- Choosing a holistic route means returning to our roots, using products the earth gave us vs ones created in a lab, and taking back power over our healing.
Grounding & Internal Peace
- Beyond the products we put into/onto our temples; holistic approaches also consider our being as a whole. Healing holistically means considering the wellbeing of your heart, mind, body, and soul.
- Society today has become so fast paced that it feels impossible to care for ourselves and consider how we do it. This is the point. When our time to consider ourselves is stripped away, we lose sight of who we are and what we need. Today's standards of healing are simply realizing you have a problem and concealing it temporarily or distracting yourself until it stops; this cultivates space for constant instability and internal chaos.
- Healing holistically means finding the root to a problem/feeling, checking in with yourself to see why you may feel it, determining the steps/resources needed to resolve the feeling, and seeking steps needed to be proactive in assuring you're prepared for if it arises again. Healing holistically means looking at your life and choosing intentionality; making decisions that will benefit your being as a whole, taking time to be still and check in with your body, and prioritizing yourself and your needs.
- Wellness starts within.
